‘You Got Me' by Clodagh was released on 9 July.

Clodagh’s new vid for hit song

It’s been the bones of a year since Macroom pop singer Clodagh released her debut EP, and now she’s back with a brand new video to lift us out of our lockdown blues.

The new video accompanies her recently released single ‘You Got Me’ which saw her enter the Irish Breakers Radio Chart and amass over 125,000 impacts on Irish radio.

One of the first things you’ll notice is the beautiful quality of production on this clever track as it flirts with themes of attraction, temptation and self-denial atop an irresistible electronic beat and driving baseline.

Clodagh’s lyrics are honest and simple, and her coolly defiant vocals hit all the right spots without ever feeling over dramatic or forced.

“I love theory and was trying to play with more advanced concepts like modes in a context where it didn’t stand out as a modal song,” says Clodagh.

“‘You Got Me’ is about growing as a person and the struggle that can present when you have to let people go in life, that feeling of people being infatuated by a person that you shouldn’t and resisting temptations.”

In addition to studying at the British and Irish Modern Music Institute (BIMM) in Dublin, the soulful singer has trained under renowned vocal coaches Gemma Sugrue (RTÉ Concert Orchestra, Chic, Billy Ocean, Jerry Fish, Lee Fields) and Chris Johnson (The Naked Vocalist).

Clodagh herself teaches as a vocal coach when she’s not studying for her final year of college.

Born in Rhode Island in the United States, Clodagh moved back to Ireland with her father when she was very young.

A big fan of Lianne La Havas, Tom Odell and Jessie Ware, Clodagh’s love for layered harmonies has already seen her compared to the likes of Lisa Hannigan and Wyvern Lingo.

Only last year, she was selected for a residency at Attica Audio, as part of Donegal Arts Festival, with producers Tommy McLaughlin and Rocky O’Reilly. She was also chosen for a specialist jazz course in Izola, Slovenia.

The video for ‘You Got Me’ was released on 9 July and is now available to watch on YouTube. The song itself was released last month and can be found on all usual platforms.
