UCC appoints interim president

Professor John O’Halloran has been appointed as the Interim President of University College Cork (UCC).

This week the governing body announced the appointment of Professor O’Halloran for a year.

He has served as Deputy President and Registrar since 2018 and assumes the Interim President role immediately.

“These are challenging times but the strength of UCC, is its community. I look forward to working together with our students and colleagues,” commented Professor O’Halloran.

Dr Catherine Day, Chair of the Governing Body of UCC, welcomed Professor O’Halloran’s appointment and wished him every success in his leadership of the university.

In July, Professor Patrick O’Shea announced his retirement as president and an international recruitment search for a successor will be launched in the coming months.
