Irene Kelleher's ‘A Safe Passage' is one of six off-site theatre pieces to be showcased online in Corcadorca's SHOW 2020.

It's SHOW time!

Corcadorca is no stranger to placing incredible and reactive theatre into unusual places.

The Leeside theatre group has been using Cork as its stage for almost 30 years now. It’s unique off-site theatrical productions have seen Jesus crucified on Patrick’s Hill in 'The Trial of Jesus'.

It has seen Shakespeare’s sprawling 'Merchant of Venice' spread out across the city’s streets and quays. It has seen Georg Büchner’s 'Woyzeck' unfold at the naval base in Haulbowline.

Now, faced with constantly shifting restrictions, this resourceful and growing group of dedicated creative minds has adapted to its environment once again as it brings its annual theatre showcase SHOW to an online audience for the first time.

Corcadorca has run SHOW every year since 2013 at its Theatre Development Centre housed in the Triskel Arts Centre on Tobin Street in the city centre.

During the three-day event, six new projects currently in progress will be showcased from some of the country’s most exciting up and coming theatre makers who will pitch and discuss their ideas in great detail.

The projects are all live, off-site works designed to be able to roll with whatever punches the virus throws their way in the form of restrictions.

Theatre makers to feature are Clare Monnelly, Mint. Productions, Irene Kelleher, Taste in Your Mouth, Emma Reid, and Murmuration.

Each artist will introduce a short video presentation about their work as part of this online festival.

Following each programme of presentations will be a Q&A session during which the audience can ask the artists about their planned works.

Pat Kiernan, Corcadorca’s Artistic Director, has been working closely with the artists and says that the new projects will examine the challenges of making theatre in these ever-changing conditions and how they might turn these obstacles into artistic opportunities.

“Working with a group of such inspiring, innovative and creative artists has been incredible,” says Pat.

The festival which finishes up tomorrow (Friday), will conclude with an industry panel discussion about site-specific and site-responsive work, exploring how making this type of theatre can continue, despite the fluctuating restrictions.

SHOW 2020 is free to view and is accessible through the new SHOW website.
