A plan to deal with abandoned bicycles is being worked on.

A new policy for dealing with abandoned bicycles on Leeside could be brought to fruition later this year.

News of the policy emerged after Colette Finn, a Green Party councillor, asked if Cork City Council could develop and implement a policy for dealing with abandoned bicycles in Cork city.

A spokesperson said: “In Cork city, while there is not a significant issue with regards to abandoned bikes, Cork City Council has nonetheless commenced a process to design a policy and procedure around the removal of bikes that have been abandoned in public areas across the city.

“The removal of abandoned bikes is a complex issue and action measures need to be robust, fair and appropriate. It is anticipated that this new policy will be brought to council in Q2 of 2021.”
