Jobs fair a great opportunity for small companies

MTU is organising a special virtual careers fair in June targeting smaller companies and business owners from 1 to 100 employees.

MTU Careers Service | Cork Campus is running the fair on Thursday 3 June from 11am-2pm. For MTU graduates it help them to find new opportunities.

Sven Spollen Behrens, SFA (Small Firms Association) Director said: “We are delighted to once again support Munster Technological University Cork Campus Careers Fair for Smaller Companies.

“This is a great opportunity for our smallest employers to meet with students and graduates and showcase their firms and the countless roles and wide experience that can be gained in smaller firms. I encourage all business owners to sign up today to this virtual event.”

The online event will enable smaller sized companies to explore recruitment opportunities with MTU students from full-time roles to short-term projects, internships/placements, and summer work. The event will give companies the opportunity to network with graduates of the future, lecturers, programme coordinators and to develop links with the MTU.

For example, there are so many opportunities within the hotel industry right now to grow and develop, according to Catriona Sheehan of the Cork Hospitality HR Round Table.

“Many hotels are running in-house trainee management programmes and have tangible succession plans. The post Covid-19 landscape looks better than ever with lots of innovation in hospitality in terms of technology, digital marketing, street food and outdoor dining with wellbeing at the forefront,” she said.

This three hour online jobs fair is a place where students and graduates can meet with the visiting companies to hear about job opportunities, either current or planned, for the near future, as well as gain important industry insights.

“With 60 per cent of hiring been done via networking at present, it is time for students and smaller businesses to engage in a new way. We would like to invite smaller companies, and our students, to meet and network at our virtual event on 3 June,” said Treasa Morgan, Careers Officer, MTU Careers Service.
