Anne Frank’s story told with modern twist by students

A film by secondary school students telling the story of Anne Frank with a modern twist has just been released.

Available now on MTU Cork School of Music’s YouTube channel, ‘Anne Frank:LockedIn’ was filmed by students of the MTU Cork School of Music Youth Theatre during the third Covid-19 lockdown.

In the film, Anne Frank's story is presented as a series of vlogs and scenes, chronologically charting the two years the Frank family was locked in a secret annex.

Due to restrictions, all classes and rehearsals were moved online with students recording their scenes via their computers and phones.

Director Peadar Donohoe’s inspiration for the film was to create a work that young people could relate to in these extraordinary days of the Covid-19 pandemic.

He said: “Anne Frank’s story is remarkable, both historically and as an example of an emerging young writer’s personal experience.”

He added: “The trials and tribulations of growing up still resonate with teens today and at the same time, it stands as powerful testament to the horrors of the Holocaust.”
