Green finger folks wanted

By Geraldine Fitzgerald

Lockdown brought out everybody’s inner gardener, and now you might have the chance to show off your skills to the nation.

RTÉ 1 and Amino TV are debuting a new show called ‘Ireland’s Best Gardens’ that celebrates hard work, love and attention paid to the land from enthusiastic amateurs. Each week sees ordinary gardeners open their gates to experts who will evaluate and assess the gardens, examining plants; design and special features, before ultimately choosing a winner.

Over six weeks the series will look at six quite different types of gardens like the city garden, the coastal garden, the rural garden, the formal garden, the edible garden and the awkward garden. The series will look at ones with particularly unusual shapes or issues which the owners had to surmount).

This series is a celebration of nature, of planting and growing things, of the hard work of ordinary people, and the beauty we can all create for ourselves.

Applications are open now for all interested folks, so email with the earth still fresh on your hands to gardening@animotv.ie
