New plans for Queen’s Old Castle

Plans are on the cards to transform one of Cork’s most historic and well known buildings in the city centre.

New plans were recently submitted for Queen’s Old Castle on Grand Parade which previously housed Argos.

City Properties (Cork) Limited has applied for planning permission for the conservation, refurbishment, alteration and change of use of the existing structure including the partial demolition of original and non-original fabric.

The application, if successful, will see the construction of a mixed-use office and retail development with primary access from Grand Parade with service and ancillary access from Saint Augustine Street.

The proposed office space will be designed in such a way that it suitable for a single user or multiple users with subdivisions.

The proposed development will also include roof terraces, rooflights, fire escapes, drainage, ancillary services, plant, bin storage, 66 internal cycle parking spaces, staff changing facilities and one ESB sub station and all associated site development works.

City Properties (Cork) Limited received conditional planning permission in 2020 for a different development at the same site. A decision on the new planning application is due at the end of September.
