Award-winning Irish film ‘The Bright Side’ is about to be released nationwide.

This bright be brilliant!

Following recent rave reviews and awards on the festival circuit, 65th Cork International Film Festival premiere ‘The Bright Side’ is about to be released in cinemas across Ireland.

The film tells the story of world-weary stand-up comedian Kate McLaughlin who is in a dark place and on the lookout for a way out. Her morbid prayers are soon answered in the form of an out-of-the-blue cancer diagnosis.

To placate her family, Kate begrudgingly agrees to undergo chemotherapy where, armed to the teeth with staggering levels of cynicism pitch black humour, she gets off to a terrible start with four other women in her ward.

Inspired by Anne Gildea’s best-selling memoir ‘I’ve Got Cancer, What’s Your Excuse?’, this fresh new dramedy about the healing power of love, laughter and friendship is easily one of the most enthralling films to come from Ireland in recent years.

Speaking on the upcoming release, Director Ruth Meehan says it was an “absolute joy” to make such a personal film.

“It has nurtured, inspired and entertained me in a dark time. I am delighted to have a chance to share it with Irish audiences on the big screen this summer where I hope it will do the same for them.”

‘The Bright Side’ is a Playground Pictures production that was directed by Ruth Meehan and written by Jean Pasley and Ruth Meehan.

It stars Gemma-Leah Devereux, Tom Vaughan- Lawlor, Siobhan Cullen, Derbhle Crotty, Barbara Brennan, Karen Egan and Kevin McGahern and is produced by Tony Deegan with backing from Screen Ireland, RTÉ and BAI.
