Dr Ellen O’Brien works in the Cork clinic.

Trust is everything

Like death and taxes, one of the few things we can be sure of is that we are all ageing!

We all show the signs of this too unfortunately. As a result, aesthetic clinics have become so much more popular and mainstream in the past number of years in Ireland.

Aesthetic clinics offer non-surgical procedures designed to combat some of the signs of ageing or to rejuvenate and refresh skin.

They also may offer other services like removing unwanted fat deposits, teeth whitening, skin clearing and smoothening, eliminating excessive sweating and laser hair removal. Some can remove pigmentation or blemishes and help to treat acne and scars. SISU Aesthetic Clinic is a Cork business that has grown rapidly in the past few years, expanding to the US.

The first clinic was on Oliver Plunkett Street in the city but there are also outlets in Kerry, Dublin, Limerick, Waterford, Galway and Belfast. In Cork, there’s also a clinic in Douglas.

It is doctor-led and was created to bring “bespoke patient care and unparalleled service to an industry awash in unqualified providers and dominated by the 'assembly line' approach”.

Dr Ellen O’Brien works with SISU Aesthetic Clinic. She graduated from University College Dublin with a degree in Medicine in 2013. Following an internship in St Vincent’s University Hospital in Dublin, she began her surgical training before ultimately specialising in neurosurgery and working in both Dublin and Cork hospitals for a number of years.

Having developed an interest in aesthetic medicine, it was an easy decision to join the team at SISU, she says. “The patient centred approach and quality of care across all of the SISU clinics ensure it’s a fascinating and rewarding place to work,” she told us.

Her favourite SISU treatment is SISU Kiss. This is a lip augmentation treatment which is extremely popular amongst females of all age groups, she adds. She continues: “We cater the process to each individual to ensure the right outcome for every patient and it’s wonderful to see people leave the clinic smiling. The thing I love the most about SISU Kiss is how it instantly makes our patient more confident. Our lip filler treatment also requires zero downtime, lasts up to nine months and gives the most natural, beautiful pout!”

“My favourite thing about working for SISU is the excellent team we have built through all our clinics. We all work together to support each other and ensure that the patients we treat are our priority at all times. The atmosphere at SISU is always extremely professional yet it is also a great, positive place to work at,” she says.

When it comes to picking an aesthetic clinic, Dr O’Brien thinks the most important thing is trust. “I can understand some people may be anxious when undergoing treatments and that’s why it’s so important to have trust in your dedicated aesthetic doctor to give advice, provide you with the result you want whilst most importantly, keeping you safe.

“Always make sure you do your research before picking a clinic. At SISU, all of our staff are doctors with proper medical training and years of study, experience behind us.

“You literally couldn’t be in better hands!”
