Cardigan is autumn’s hero piece

I must admit that I feel like I’ve lost my style mojo a little bit at the moment.

I’m blaming the change in the seasons and it really is that time of year where we are still straddling warm, heavy weather but with limited sunshine and always that threat of rain.

I seem to be checking the weather app constantly and most evenings I’m preparing two outfits for the next day just in case.

There’s also the small matter of do I continue to wear sandals or do I go full on boot wearing?

Honestly, it’s just a minefield! I tried to pack for a single night away recently and it nearly sent me into a compete tizzy. Yes, I’m am very aware this is quite sad but I do like to be prepared for every weather situation.

I’m definitely favouring a more casual and laid-back style at the moment and trying to pull pieces out of my wardrobe that I haven’t worn in a while and one of my go-tos currently is a cardigan paired with jeans and my trainers.

A cardigan is autumn’s absolute hero piece and I’m wearing mine with a little cami underneath, when it gets cooler I’ll layer over a t-shirt and add in pair of relaxed mom jeans.

I can’t stick skinnies at the moment because when its warm like this I always regret wearing them and I end up racing home just to peel them off. Leg sweats is not the look we are going for my friend so keep yourself cool with a straight leg, mom jeans or if the mood takes you - a wide leg cropped pair.

Top it all off with some white converse which strike the perfect balance between boot and sandal.

Another item I’ve been utilising loads in my wardrobe right now is the trusty sweatshirt. I invested recently in an Anine Bing tiger motif sweatshirt from Samui, and I’ve worn it loads already with both jeans and skirts. I know it will be worn all year round.

I also have my eye on a beautiful pistachio/sage green sweatshirt from Sinead Keary The Label which features a beautiful bow tie detail on the back and is the perfect wardrobe essential with a twist. I’ve also been experimenting a little bit with winter whites and light, creamy neutrals and I must say it can be nice to keep your winter look light in colour but with warm texture.

Pair a straight pair of white jeans with a beige or cream knit and a check print shacket for a stylish look that’s perfect for now. I picked up a zebra print shacket last year that works so well over this look and adds just the right amount of print to keep it interesting and I have to say one of the pluses of the start of autumn is getting to wear this shirt/jacket hybrids again.

If you didn’t invest in one last year, I highly recommend getting one this year as they are great for layering or when the weather is a bit unpredictable. The shacket also works really well over slip skirts and again it’s about striking that balance.

Wear the shacket over a thin long sleeve shirt, add a light slip skirt and then wear with your favourite pair of boots. The base layer to the outfit is light enough for when its warm while the shacket and boots provide a little bit of warmth when needed. Plus, it looks super stylish and works really well for a day to night look when lunch turns into cocktails.
