Hanna and Lia Moynihan on series two of ‘Let’s Find Out’.

Fun times for Cork kids

Some kids from Cork have been chosen to star in new episodes of an Irish-produced science TV series for children.

Series two of 'Let’s Find Out' starts airing on RTÉjr and RTÉ Player from 8 November, just in time for this year’s Science Week.

Because of Covid-19 related restrictions last summer, the producers of the show decided to only select siblings for filming and wanted them all to be from the same county and Cork got the vote.

Two pairs of siblings from the Ballincollig area were selected. They were brothers Evan and Rian Crowley from Healy’s Bridge and sisters Hanna and Lia Moynihan from Ballincollig.

The children prepared their own science experiment and took part in a fun quiz. The children’s scenes were all filmed at the Waterworks Experience in Cork city. The show takes place on the spaceship Curiosity which is captained by the very curious alien called Zoom.

Each episode Zoom wants to find out something new about planet earth. Her crewmates Amy and Mark are scientists who help Zoom demonstrate and explain things to Zoom with fun, spectacular science experiments. The ship also asks children for help.

They do their own experiments to show Zoom how things work. They also take part in the Brain Power Challenge Quiz sending badly needed brain fuel back up to the spaceship. Each episode ends with the ship morphing to far flung places like the beach, the rainforest and the Grand Canyon.

Mary Murphy of Stopwatch Productions, which makes the show, said: “We were so lucky to be able to use the fantastic facilities at the Cork Waterworks including the museum and playground. We transformed part of the centre into the show’s Brain Power Station. This is the place where children take part in what we call the Brain Power Challenge quiz to send brain fuel back up to the spaceship.”
