Paul wins September award

Having finally got to play the 2020 County Senior Football Final, Nemo Rangers retained their title, Paul Kerrigan picked up his ninth medal and for good measure he was named man of the match.

In recognition of this, Paul was presented with the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star of the Month award for September in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel.

Paul said he was delighted to be honoured.

He joins a rare group of two time monthly winners having been honoured previously in 2011.

He said: “It is always nice to get an award and I am thrilled to be here, but my thanks to my team mates and manager Paul O’Donovan for all the hard work over a long and challenging season.”

Joe Blake PRO of the Cork County Board said: “It’s a testimony to his commitment that he is still producing the goods for his club and is a worthy recipient of this accolade, while as a Cork player he was so helpful in the promotion of board activities and was always available to help when required.”

He added: “Rochestown Park Hotel are great supporters of the board over many years, while 96FM/C103’s coverage of our games is unrivalled and never more so in the past 18 months when attendances were limited.”

Paul was accompanied by family members while several of his team mates were in attendance including Micheál Aodh Martin, a previous monthly winner, and Denis Allen a recipient of the Distinguished Career Award in 2019, team manager Paul O’Donovan and Club President Ber Allen.

Tom Tobin of Rochestown Park Hotel and Kieran McGeary of 96FM congratulated Paul on his award and expressed delight that the awards were back.

Paul now joins the previous recipients as Monthly winners, Tadgh Deasy (St Michael’s), Tracey Kennedy (Cork) Shane Barrett (Blarney), Blackrock’s Alan Connolly, Cork Camogie and Ladies Football star Hannah Looney and Eire Og’s John Cooper, dual under 20 hurlers and footballers Brian Hayes (St Finbarr’s) and Jack Cahalane (St Finbarr’s and Castlehaven), and Cork Under 20 hurler Padraig Power on list for the overall award.

The winners will be announced at the end of year gala banquet, a date for which will be announced shortly.
