Getting glam in Glanmire

One thing I really missed during lockdown was being able to go to events. You can’t beat a relaxing afternoon in a beautiful location with great food and cocktails and some excellent company, so when I was invited to attend a celebration for International Womens Day at The Barn Gastropub to celebrate with some of Corks most influential social media ladies, I jumped at the chance.

I also was weirdly excited about the drive there because I had never driven to Glanmire before and having only just passed my test a few weeks before Covid hit, I’m only now getting to drive to loads of places having spent the last two years pretty much just driving between work and home.

Now I can tick Glanmire off my list of places that I know how to drive to. I mean as you can see my life is pretty wild!

I would definitely make the drive again just to go back to The Barn, the décor in the newly renovated venue is so tasteful and chic with beautiful exposed brick, dark wood and lighting fixtures that I would love in my own home makes it the perfect backdrop for gatherings or for a cosy brunch date.

The weather was terrible on the day I visited but I did also spot a beautiful outdoor area that would be amazing for a summer party. Everyone was greeted with a prosecco cocktail of locally produced Killahora Rare Apple Ice Wine and then treated to a delicious brunch along with the mixologist’s selection of The Barns cocktails. Now next time I go I’ll be bringing along a designated driver as I had the absolute FOMO watching everyone having a cocktail. I actually treated myself to a bottle of the apple ice wine so I could recreate the prosecco cocktail at home myself.

Of course the best part of any event is catching up with people especially so when you haven’t seen some people in years or you’ve only met the person virtually on Instragram and this is your first time meeting them in real life.

It really is just marvelous to be able to have the chats and I could have easily stayed there for the whole evening; the vibe of The Barn was just so chilled. Everyone also brought their absolute style A game and I was loving seeing everyone’s different looks.

It can actually be quite hard dressing for a brunch event. A night time event is easy because it feels more normal to be going for full on glam but you want to keep it somewhat smart casual for day time.

Even though now to be fair I think everyone is just mad to get dressed up regardless of the time of day. A great dress or a jumpsuit is a total go to and is always an easy one to style. I opted for a printed plisse co-ord from River Island which was light and extremely stretchy.

I’m not ready to let go of an elasticated waistband just yet but keeping it stylish with the dressy two-piece. I accessorized with a vintage black belt, orange crossbody bag and my trusty white boots.

I love an outfit that’s easy to throw on and with very little effort you look put together and leaves you room for dessert so this little number ticked all the boxes! I’m excited for the next event.
