The H2 Clinic in Bishopstown uses molecular hydrogen therapy to treat an expansive range of health issues.

Hydrogen therapy is here

A Cork city clinic is successfully using molecular hydrogen therapy to treat a wide range of health issues including symptoms of long Covid-19.

H2 Clinic opened in 2018 in conjunction with Kilross Clinic in Bishopstown and is the first clinic of its kind to use molecular hydrogen as a wellness therapy. The clinic is also affiliated to the European Institute for Molecular Hydrogen Therapy.

Hydrogen therapy is a clinical procedure carried out on a person for the purpose of administering molecular hydrogen (H2) for therapeutic purposes. H2 is a molecule that, when absorbed, will rapidly cross the blood-brain barrier while also diffusing into the cell nuclei.

Hydrogen is the smallest molecule in the universe, yet despite its size, studies have shown that it is one of the most powerful antioxidants known. Antioxidants protect the body’s cells against toxic free radicals – molecules that can accumulate in the body as a result of viruses, bacteria, air pollutants, industrial chemicals, lack of sleep, drugs etc.

H2 is also a selective molecule, meaning that it will only target toxic reactive oxidative species (free radicals) converting them to water (H2O) leaving no toxic by-products and allowing the useful free radicals get on with cell function.

H2 is said to influence brain and cognitive health, athletic performance and post-exercise recovery while helping in the on-going activation of the body’s detoxification pathways, namely skin, lungs, colon, liver and kidneys.

According to the experts at H2 Clinic, over 1,000 scientific articles from Japan, South Korea and the United States suggest that molecular hydrogen has therapeutic potential in over 170 human and animal disease models.

Research carried out by H2 Clinic on a number of subjects over a one year period shows the therapeutic benefits of molecular hydrogen. Examples include a 52 per cent average improvement in pain relief, a 62 per cent average improvement in arthritis improvement symptoms, a 55 per cent average improvement in symptom of poor lung health, and a general wellbeing improvement of 61 per cent overall improvement.

H2 Clinic also carried out a study on athletes in 2021 recording very positive results including a rapid improvement in sleeping and recovery time. A spokesperson for the clinic said: “At H2 Clinic we pride ourselves on our extensive experience in the theory and clinical application of molecular hydrogen as well as continuing research. The main areas of focus at the clinic are pain, arthritis, lung health and general wellbeing. Long Covid symptoms and helping patients feel good post-Covid-19 is a major one at the moment at the clinic.”
