Aisling and Forbes of Revel.

New concept store is brewing up a storm in West Cork

I love a weekend where you can just potter about and enjoy the sunshine with a coffee in hand.

Especially when you get to check out a fabulous new coffee spot in scenic Clonakilty.

Revel is the town’s new concept store and coffee bar with the most beautiful interiors and a small but well thought out collection of clothing and homewares.

One half of the owners Forbes opened a coffee caravan in Glengarriff over six years ago. When he and Aisling started dating in June 2020, they got chatting about their dream which seemed to align with one another.

Fast forward one year and a half and they got married and started the journey of making that dream a reality.

“Revel Clonakilty started to become a reality once we received the keys at the end of January of this year. Forbes runs the coffee bar on the right of the doorway and I run the retail side of things on the left,” said Aisling.

The interior really is unlike any other coffee bar around with plants, wooden features and a rich green velvet couch creating an atmosphere that you just want to hang out in.

As Aisling said: “Forbes and I live in a cabin and so we joke that the interior of the store and coffee bar is like the cabin on its best behaviour. The vertical cladding on the wall is an ode to our own little home.”

There’s also a really carefully curated selection of clothing for both men and women from the Dutch clothing brand Kuyichi whose ethos is sustainable clothing made from organic and recycled materials.

The pieces are vegan, timeless and ethically made to last. The brand features very neutral pieces and outstanding denim in natural colour tones that look good on anyone.

Classic t-shirts in oversized fits, casual hoodies and shirts all look great layered with cosy knitwear in classic shades like deep navy, meaning you can create a fantastic capsule wardrobe of good quality basics.

For the more summer months, there’s also a khaki green or rich rust colour loose fit, cotton vests that are simple but oh so chic when paired with your favourite denim.

I couldn’t talk about the collection and not mention the denim. It’s a small collection of four different styles with my favourite being the Nora which is a mom style fit.

The feel of the denim is so soft and it’s a mom style that is extremely flattering and feels like you are wearing joggers not denim which of course is the dream jean situation.

The wash is on the lighter side which means I’ll be wearing them all spring/summer long with t-shirts and throwing on a printed jacket and some sandals as my go-to look.

It can be really hard to find good denim, in fact it can be the most stressful thing to shop for but my advice to anyone is set out a little time so that you can go try on some different fits and the great thing about Kuyichi denim is that they also do different leg lengths and half sizes so you can find the perfect pair for you.

Then sit back and treat yourself to a celebratory coffee afterwards!
