‘Devoted mother’ to be laid to rest

The funeral of a Cork mother who died unexpectedly while on a charity mountain climb will take place tomorrow.

Cora O’Grady, 51, from Mitchelstown was taking part in the Climb with Charlie charity event on Saturday with her two young children when she collapsed close to the summit of Galtymore mountain.

Although paramedics tried to revive Ms O’Grady, she was pronounced dead at the scene and her body was removed to University Hospital Waterford by the Irish Community Air Ambulance from Cork.

Ms O’Grady’s funeral cortege will leave the Chapel of Rest in Mitchelstown tomorrow, Friday, and travel via Baldwin Street and Lower Cork Street, on its way to the Church of Mary Conceived Without Sin for requiem mass at 12pm. Ms O’Grady’s burial will take place afterwards in the adjoining cemetery.

A notice on Rip.ie read: “Devoted mother of Luke and Lilly and loving sister of Geraldine, Edel and the late Gabby. Deeply mourned by her heartbroken family, brothers-in-law Michel Riand and Kieran Barrett, uncles Gerard and Eddie, aunts Theresa, Marie and Imelda, their extended families, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and her many friends.”

Fundraiser

Cora’s friends and family have set up a GoFundMe page for her bereaved children Luke and Lilly.

The campaign aims to raise €40,000 for her children, who friends of Cora say, “were her life”.

A message on the GoFundMe page reads: “Cora adored her two children and devoted every waking hour to them. Cora will be sadly missed by all who know her. As a community, everyone wants to offer their help.”

All funds raised will help support Cora's children, Luke and Lilly. Any donations are greatly appreciated.
