The cocktail was one of the best I’ve had.

A fabulous Cork city stay-cay

As all my birthday plans were scuppered due to Covid-19, I decided I needed a treat and what better way than a little Cork city stay-cay and on a Thursday night no less.

Is there anything better than a night away on what should be a school night? It adds to the decadence of it all even more.

Myself and my husband stayed in the Imperial Hotel and then went for cocktails and sushi to Electric which has been newly renovated and has a very cool LA vibe to the place.

There’s a very chilled easy dining experience in the upstairs restaurant and they now do a great offer of two cocktails and a chefs selection of sushi for €29. Obviously as major sushi and cocktail fans, Rob and I were in heaven grazing away as we people watched out the window on a fabulously sunny evening.

If sushi isn’t your thing, there’s also a really lovely Asian fusion menu of which the Korean friend chicken was a favourite of us both. The lovely Trish explained everything on the menu to us so even if it’s something you might not normally eat, she and the staff will point you in the right direction.

If you love a cocktail then I urge you to pop in and try one or two. I must say they are some of the best cocktails I’ve tried…and I have sampled one or two cocktails over the years. It almost made me want to live in the city again, so I could have those Thursday evening after work drink vibes.

Also, I have to say the novelty of being able to get dressed up and go out has not worn off yet. I feel like I have so many dressy outfits that haven’t been worn in the last few years and so I have a backlog of outfits hanging in the wardrobe.

Does that mean that I now show up to reasonably casual drinks parties wildly overdressed? Yes! Do I care and will I tone it down? That would be a no. Yes I may get odd looks walking down South Mall at 6pm on a Thursday evening wearing a rainbow striped, slightly glittery full length dress with lime green blazer (sounds horrendous on paper but does work in real life) but really who cares?

As long as you are true to your own style and feel amazing in what you wear then who cares what others think and I know I love to see people dressed up and enjoying themselves, most people do.

It’s all about ‘dopamine dressing’ these days and finding that joy in the things that you wear. It’s all about not following trends and just actively wearing clothing that makes us happy whether it be a rainbow dress or just your absolute favourite pair of jeans.

While some aspects of your life can seem out of control, the one thing you can control is what you wear and this can be a great way to boost your mood. An easy way to get a boost from your clothing is by embracing colour which has long been associated with being able to alter your mood and different colours have different associations. Texture is another way of doing this and even just stepping out of your comfort zone can have a positive impact on your mood. So here’s to embracing your personal style and having cocktails on a Thursday night!
