Award for two schools

There was an unique presentation lunch on Tuesday when the joint winners of the 96FM/C103 GAA Sports Star awards in association with the Rochestown Park Hotel for March were presented.

St Francis Rochestown College and Beara Community School were honoured for winning their respective Post Primary All-Ireland titles in hurling and football with excellent victories in exciting campaigns. It was all the more worthwhile with colleges competitions having been on hold for the best part of two years.

Kevin Lyons accepted the award on behalf of Rochestown College and said: “It was a fantastic campaign and to win the All-Ireland with your friends was extra special, while the role of our coaches was key to winning.”

Beara Community School’s Sean O’Shea said: “We trained hard all year as we saw it as a great opportunity to win, especially not having played with the school for over two years and it is a great boost for football in the division.”

County Board Coaching Officer Jerry Walsh congratulated both recipients on their awards, while also commending 96FM/C103 and the Rochestown Park Hotel for their continued support. The 2021 Gala Banquet will take place on Friday 22 April.
