Man due in court for armed robbery

A man will appear before Cork City Court this morning after being charged in connection with an armed robbery over the weekend.

The man in his late 30s was arrested on Saturday evening after an armed robbery was carried out at a business premises in Ballincollig.

Gardaí said the lone man entered the premises just after 7pm and began to threaten staff members before making off with a number of stolen items.

The suspect was arrested shortly afterwards following a search of the area by gardaí and was taken to Bridewell Garda Station for questioning. Gardaí also confirmed the stolen property had been retrieved.

A statement released by An Garda Síochána on Sunday read: “Gardaí in Togher arrested one man following an armed robbery that occurred at a business premises on Main Street, Ballincollig, Cork on the evening of Saturday 23 April 2022.

“At approximately 7.15pm yesterday evening a lone male entered the business premises on Main Street, Ballincollig armed with a weapon and threatened the staff members. He left the scene in a taxi with a number of items of property."

The statement added: “In a follow up search of the area, gardaí arrested one man (late 30's) and the property from the premises was located. He was taken to Bridewell Garda Station where he was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984. He has since been charged in relation to the incident and is due to appear tomorrow morning, Monday 25 April 2022. The investigation is ongoing.”
