As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí have seized drugs and cash and arrested two men in separate operations conducted in the Gurranabraher area on Friday 29 April.

Drugs and cash seized in city

Two men were recently arrested in two separate operations in Cork city, gardaí have confirmed.

Shortly after 5pm on 29 April, a house in the Gurranabraher area was searched under warrant by members of the Serious Crime and Drugs Units based at Gurranabraher Station.

Gardaí have said that cannabis herb worth in excess of €20,000 was seized along with €7,000 in cash.

Other items including mobile phones and electronic scales were also seized.

A man in aged in his late 20s was arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drugs Trafficking Act, 1996 at Gurranabraher station.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “In a separate operation, shortly before 8pm on the same day (29 April) members of the Cork Divisional Drugs and local drugs units searched a house under warrant also in the Gurrnabraher area.”

The garda spokesperson confirmed to the Cork Independent that cocaine worth in excess of €8,000 was seized along with €4,000 in cash.

A man in his late 30s was arrested and detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice Drugs Trafficking Act, 1996 at Gurranabraher station.

Both men have since appeared before the courts, the newspaper was told.

The garda spokesperson explained that the male, aged in his 20s, appeared before Cork City District Court on 1 May while the second male, aged in his 30s, appeared before Cork City District Court yesterday, 4 May.

Both investigations were part of Operation Tara, which is an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy. It was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2 July 2021.

The spokesperson for An Garda Síochána added: “The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks, at all levels - international, national, local - involved in the importation, distribution, cultivation, production, local sale and supply of controlled drugs.”
