Teen arrested during drug seizure

Gardaí have arrested a teenager and seized €60,000 worth of cannabis after searching a house in Cobh yesterday, Wednesday.

A sum of €9,000 in cash was also seized during the search in the East Hill area of Cobh.

The seizure and arrest were made by gardaí in the Midleton District Drugs Unit as part of Operation Tara, a strategy designed to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks in Ireland.

Gardaí confirmed they arrested a man in his late teens and detained him for questioning at Cobh Garda Station.

Operation Tara was launched by Garda Commissioner Drew Harris on 2 July 2021.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “A man in his late teens was arrested and detained under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 for questioning, at Cobh Garda station. He has since been released without charge and a file is now being prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions. Investigations are ongoing.”
