It's about to be a bright summer

This feels like the first summer in years where we can go to weddings, get back holidaying and just generally gathering for merriment and with that comes a need to investigate my wardrobe to see what pieces I’ll be wearing.

I am trying to get through the whole summer without buying anything new because I feel, like many others, we haven’t been able to properly wear the clothes we already have. I have items I bought about three summers ago I haven’t worn outside my house and so this season I shall be shopping my own wardrobe.

This season it’s all about bright and beautiful pieces and really embracing that dopamine dressing and, luckily, I have a wardrobe bursting with print and colour.

I’ll be searching for anything in shades of orange, pink, blue and lilac which are some of this season’s hottest colour trends as well as lemon and a pea green.

Pantone colour of the year lilac is for sure one of my favourites having had a lilac teenage bedroom but now I keep the shade to my clothing and accessories. I bought a pair of lilac espadrilles on holidays a few years back and they are still one of my favourite pairs of shoes.

They work so well with white or light denim, and you can also create a contrast and wear it with yellow or green. A lilac blazer is a nice and easy way to dip your toe in this colour trend.

Pink also gets a seasonal update with vibrant bubblegum shades coming to the forefront while the lighter pastel shades take a back seat.

It looks amazing worn with two colours I absolutely love and that’s green and orange. Both of which are having a moment this season.

Orange certainly packs a punch and makes a style statement with very little effort. Just don an orange guna to your next event and let the dress do the talking. Add a chunky bangle or drop earring and a gold sandal and you’re done.

Another thing I’ll also be seeking out from the back of the wardrobe is anything linen. Once seen as a slightly tricky to wear fabric due to its ease of wrinkling, linen has now made a very welcome comeback.

I’ve picked up a few pieces over the years and they are items I wear again and again.

A particular favourite piece of mine is a sage green thick linen jumpsuit I bought in GAP that is so comfortable and effortless and works well with an espadrille or leather sandal.

I also have an orange linen dress that is perfect for those hot summer days and that I reach for again and again every year. One thing that never goes out of style is a linen shirt and it’s the perfect pairing to denim cut off shorts, thrown over your swimwear on holidays or worn knotted over a brightly coloured skirt.

Neutral shades are always a good idea when it comes to linen shirts but also look at striped or brightly printed options to bring some joy to your summer style.
