Singer and songwriter Clodagh is going stateside to retrace her roots

Clodagh O'Sullivan, one of Cork’s most promising songwriters, is heading to America this summer to retrace her roots on a journey of healing, inspiration and artistic growth.

During her trip to the US, Clodagh will be returning to the east coast to where she lived as a child before her mother passed away.

“I was born in Newport Rhode Island and moved home to Ireland when I was 3 years old. I've been back once when I was younger but this is the first time I will be returning when I am old enough to experience the place for myself,” says Clodagh.

She continues: “A lot of my music has been to help me heal through the grief of losing my mother, and after she passed away, we moved back to Cork.

“I have very little memory of the place, but it holds a very special place in my heart.”

The Macroom local’s journey will then take her cross country to LA where she will take part in the VocalizeU intensive summer artist development programme.

Her trip comes on the back of song writing camps with legendary American singer-songwriter Ben Folds, as well as a specialist jazz course in Slovenia where she worked with Amy Winehouse’s guitarist Femi Temowo.

All of Clodagh’s hard work has clearly paid off with her current single 'All You Do Is' having already received attention from RTÉ Radio 1's Lilian Smith, who described it as “glorious” when she played it on her show ‘Late Date’ recently.

Clodagh also impressed Hot Press Magazine who invited her to showcase her music as part of their Y&E Series in conjunction with the Department of Tourism, Culture, Arts, Gaeltacht, Sport and Media.
