Ballyhoura Country has announced its Summer Guided Tours Series in partnership with the OPW and local knowledgeable Doneraile guides which will be brought to life alongside talented members of Doneraile Drama Society.

Pageantry meets history

Forget Downton Abbey, the place to visit this season for a taste of majesty, magnificence and grandeur is undoubtedly Doneraile Park and Gardens.

Located on the banks of the Awbeg River, a series of very special guided tours around the 17th century country estate will take place this summer, Ballyhoura Country recently announced.

These beautiful tours will be held on selected Sundays throughout the 2022 season, and are filled with pageantry, history and storytelling.

They will also grant access to the private Doneraile Estate Pleasure Gardens, Parterre, and Walled Gardens.

The June tour takes place on 26 June at 2.30pm. Tickets are €5 per person and tickets for all Sundays can be booked online at Eventbrite.

Margaret O’Riordain, an OPW tour guide for Doneraile Court explained: “Doneraile Local Guides and Doneraile Drama Society have come together to tell the most curious history of the St Legers, their numerous connections to other landed families, their impact upon the landscape of Doneraile and their legacy.”

Myra Ryall, a local Doneraile tour guide said: “The interactions between the historical characters from The Doneraile Drama Society and the tour guides on the day are enthralling to watch and bring about a superb pageantry and performance to the tours. This ensures that all ages and interests are catered for. Although I’ve spent over 10 years giving tours, I still look forward to each and every one!”

These tours will show an estate that belongs in a period drama, and provide historically accurate information of what it once was.
