This Shandon festival should ring a bell

There was great news for the city yesterday with the announcement of the return of the Shandon Street Festival for its 14th outing.

The hugely popular family festival, which sees one of Cork’s most iconic streets come to life, will take place next Saturday from 1pm.

Speaking in the build-up to the festival, organisers Linda O’Halloran and James Nolan said this year’s event is going to be the best yet.

“This is our 14th year organizing the festival, and each year it has gone from strength to strength. We have been working hard over the last few months to get many family friendly activities and events organised. We would like to welcome everyone to Shandon on Saturday 18 June from 1-5pm, to help us celebrate this great community that we have and to take part in all the activities,” they said.

This year the festival is packed with family friendly activities and events including street entertainment, magic shows, circus skills, balloon modellers, an art workshop, a puppet show, and much more.

There will also some interactive theatre by Wonderworld Productions, and a drumming workshop which children can take part in themselves. That’s bang on!

For the football mad Under tens, there will be a five-a-side football tournament which will take place in St Anne’s Park along with a whole host of other activities like hula hoops and skipping ropes for all age groups.

On top of all that, there will be plenty of live music going on all day and anyone that’s interested can even try their hand (or foot) at Mexican dancing. Olé! There will of course be food too with a wide range of delicious snacks and food stalls to choose from.

Amateur photographers are also encouraged to get involved by taking photographs and posting them to the Shandon Street Festival 2022 Facebook page and Twitter @shandonstfest #shandon and on Instagram.

The main sponsor of the Shandon Street Festival is Cathedral Credit Union Ltd.
