VW dealership continues support of biker charity

Blood Bike South may be associated with the transport of medical material by motorbike, but did you know they also use a car for times when the weather was too bad for the bikes to be on the road?

This week the charity was provided with a new Volkswagen Polo by Blackwater Motors Volkswagen marking the fifth year that Blackwater Motors Volkswagen will support the Blood Bike South organisation.

The Polo will help them carry out their duties which include the transport of medical material on an out of hours service around Cork.

Blackwater Motors first began their sponsorship of the voluntary organisation back in 2017, through their Senior Sales Executive Ritchie Daly, who is based in the Cork Volkswagen branch.

Ritchie, who has volunteered with the Blood Bikes South since 2016, saw the need for a vehicle for the organisation on the days and nights that the weather was too bad for bikes to be used to make the important deliveries to the public hospitals and clinics. He approached Blackwater Motors to see could they supply a vehicle.

It was fitting that the latest handover of the Volkswagen Polo coincided with the first day of the 222 plate, Friday 1 July with Mark Farson, General Manager Blackwater Motors Volkswagen, Forge Hill, presenting Billy Cahill, Treasurer of Blood Bike South with the keys to the new model.

Speaking at the presentation, Mark Farson said: “We’re delighted and very proud to continue our support of Blood Bikes South. The work done by all the volunteers is invaluable to our community, and providing this reliable and efficient vehicle means that Blood Bikes South will continue to deliver, whatever the weather.”

Blood Bike South’s services are provided by local volunteers, who take part in advanced training and undergo regular reviews of their skills. The volunteers give up their time to serve their communities and hospitals.

The charity heavily relies on the support of local communities and businesses to help them pay for running costs such as insurance and petrol etc. To donate to Blood Bikes South or to become a volunteer, email contact@bloodbikesouth.ie.
