Reworked vintage linen and lace from Peach Vintage.

Vintage and modern pieces can be mixed together

I love nothing better than a rummage through the rails of a vintage shop or to peruse for vintage online.

Not only is it a sustainable way of shopping, it also ensures that your style will be truly unique and I love to mix it in with modern pieces from my wardrobe.

When you mix this with reworked pieces of vintage, you are truly getting something unique that nobody else will have and so I was so excited to speak with Katie from Peach Vintage during the week to discuss her beautiful reworked vintage towel tops and lace and linen ponchos.

Peach Vintage started in 2018 while Katie was working in the corporate world and found that her wardrobe was overflowing with clothing that she felt she had to purchase for events/meetings with a pressure to always have something new to wear.

She also had a massive amount of beautiful vintage dresses that had been collected while living in the States. Katie initially began by setting up and selling her own items from a Facebook page which really took off and soon she had run out of things to sell and so started selling items for family and friends. Then people starting to message the page to sell their own items which grew organically and there is a community of people now that are all part of the circular fashion economy.

As Katie said: “I’ve people that just sell with Peach Vintage and I have people that just buy with me. It is such an empowering feeling to be part of a solution that can reduce our fast fashion intake. I accept all types of clothing for resell, whether its new with tags, worn a number of times or vintage, I will do my best to resell your items for you.”

Consignment selling is a great way of selling items in your own wardrobe that you no longer use.

With time on her hands during the past couple of years due to the pandemic, she asked her mam, Cathy, to teach her to sew. She had initially started upcycling denim jackets with fabric, patches etc. with great success and then had the idea to use vintage towels to make clothing.

The vintage towel tops are hand sewn by Katie with huge help from her mam Cathy; they are all made from vintage towels sourced in Holland and USA. They are made with people who love the outdoors in mind, who are conscious of the environment but also love to look unique and stylish. There is only 1 of everything, no 2 items are the same, so when you buy 1 of these pieces you are really getting something special.

When she started her venture with reworking clothing, she wanted to make sustainable, recycled clothing to fit and suit all body types, of course with towels this can be challenging, (towels are generally quite small) which brought her to the idea of upcycling vintage lace and linen.

“I have created a line of vintage ponchos suitable for all, with many of the items suitable for the eco conscious bride. They are worn over your head, easy to wear and unique and will look beautiful on all body types. You are wearing a piece of history,” she said.

She hopes to have her vintage horsebox store up and running this summer for a truly unique shopping experience featuring her consignment clothing and those beautiful reworked pieces.
