It’s all a mystery

It’s hoped an upcoming charity event will help people to familiarise themselves with the Eircode system.

Porsche Club Ireland has announced a new fundraising event that will run in and around the Cork region on Saturday 23 July called The Eircode Challenge Mystery Tour which is a fundraiser for the Irish Community Air Ambulance.

The members-only event is the brainchild of a Southern Region member who has put together a mystery tour run solely by Eircode.

The Irish Community Air Ambulance works in partnership with the National Ambulance Service and responds to serious and life threatening emergencies from its base in Rathcool, Co. Cork. The charity also has critical care teams on the ground in Dublin, Mayo and Donegal and plans to expand this service further.

CEO of the Irish Community Air Ambulance Micheál Sheridan said: “Our crews are tasked to some of the most serious emergencies. We have five advanced and critical care rapid response vehicles on the road in Donegal, Mayo and Dublin, staffed by emergency medicine doctors who volunteer their time and provide hospital-level interventions at the scene.

“The specialist equipment and medical supplies used by our critical care doctors comes with a high price so we are extremely thankful to Porsche Club Ireland for hosting this unique fundraiser. It will also help to support the expansion of our advanced and critical care service to more locations across Ireland.”

The Porsche Club is eager to promote the use of Eircode and familiarise people with the Eircode system.

Porsche Club Ireland Southern Region organiser Sandra Golden said: “The importance of knowing your Eircode and being able to find an Eircode in a hurry cannot be stressed enough. Having the correct Eircode to hand is a crucial aid to the emergency services, including the Community Air Ambulance, saving them vital time in locating a person in distress.” Porsche Club Ireland president Denis McGill said: “The club is very excited about this all new event and hope it will become an annual event supporting the Irish Community Air Ambulance services. Collection buckets will be at the starting location, which is yet to be revealed and other locations too. So keep an eye out and see if you can spot these beautiful cars as they explore the wonderful Cork locations and try to win the Eircode Challenge.”
