Cocaine and cannabis with a combined value of €220,000 were seized at a Cork city residence last night along with some cash and an imitation firearm.

Major drugs seizure in city

Gardaí in Cork city have seized drugs worth an estimated €220,000 and arrested a man in his 30s.

The seizure and arrest were made following the search of a Cork city residence at 8.30pm yesterday evening.

Cocaine with an estimated value of €210,000 and cannabis worth €10,000 was seized at the scene. An imitation firearm and €3,100 in cash were also seized.

The man in his 30s was arrested at the scene and later taken to Bridewell Garda Station where he is currently detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

The search was carried out by gardaí from the Bridewell Garda Station as part of Operation Tara, an enhanced national anti-drugs strategy.

Gardaí said all of the drugs seized will now be sent for further analysis and confirmed that investigations ongoing.

The focus of Operation Tara is to disrupt, dismantle and prosecute drug trafficking networks at all levels.
