The annual novena will begin on 31 August at the Sacred Heart Church on the Western Road.

Time for reflection

The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart will hold its annual novena to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart in Cork city from the end of August and into September.

The 9 days of prayer and thanksgiving will take place at the Sacred Heart Church on the Western Road from 31 August to 8 September.

The Missionaries of the Sacred Heart (MSC) novena represents a special time of year put aside for prayer before the late autumn and winter seasons, with this year’s novena embracing the theme ‘Mary, Mother of Compassion’.

All are very welcome to take part in this year’s novena by joining the missionaries for mass in the Sacred Heart Church, or by visiting mscmissions.ie where daily masses will be streamed live at 10am and 7pm.

A day of reconciliation will be led by Fr Tom Mulcahy on 2 September, followed by a special reflection on Mary and Suffering by Fr John Fitzgerald on 5 September, and the annual day of healing on 6 September.

A spokesperson for the Missionaries of the Sacred Heart said: “Each year, the annual MSC Novena to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart is a much-anticipated time of reflection, prayer, and thanksgiving, in the sacred space offered by our daily Novena Masses.

“Year upon year, the MSC Novena to Our Lady of the Sacred Heart offers great solace and comfort to all who take part, as we bring our prayers and personal intentions before our holy mother. “As we navigate the ongoing challenges of our troubled world, we look forward to coming together in the spirit of hope and prayer at this sacred time.”
