From Friday to Sunday, Camden Fort Meagher is inviting the public to come and enjoy a jam-packed programme of events as part of Heritage Week.

Camden Fort Meagher in Crosshaven has a huge line-up of events in store for its open weekend starting this Friday as part of National Heritage Week.

On Friday, a special, once off showing will take place of civil war film ‘Once upon a time in Ireland’, produced by local man Conor Slattery. Winner of the best independent feature film at the Underground Cinema International Film Festival in 2021, the film has enjoyed great success overseas in cities including Chicago and Washington DC.

Tickets for the screening are limited and can be purchased on Eventbrite or Centra in Crosshaven for €8. At 3pm on Saturday, a documentary on Kerry IRA man John Flynn will be screened, followed by a discussion hosted by retired army captain Niall Twomey, historian Martin Moore, and local guide Brendan O'Sullivan.

The documentary will be preceded by a presentation by Senator Mark Daly on the Hereford Ambush in which John Flynn was involved.

On Saturday evening there will be live music from Cork singer/songwriter Billy Kennedy from 6.30pm. Tickets are €20 and available from Eventbrite or Centra in Crosshaven.

On Sunday, visitors to the fort will be entertained by Comhaltas Douglas to finish the weekend on a high with some beautiful Irish music from 3pm.

On both Saturday and Sunday, there will also be a series of WWII re-enactments performed by local re-enactment groups for the whole family to enjoy.
