The World Naked Bike Ride will streak through Cork city next weekend.

We nude you’d be back

There’ll be plenty of bums on seats next week when the World Naked Bike Ride rolls into town, preceded by Cork’s first ever clothing optional table quiz.

The fun but meaningful event will see cyclist take to the streets of Cork on 27 August in little or no clothing to raise awareness around the dangers cyclists face on the road.

This will be the 12th World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) having been forced off the road for the past 2 years due to Covid.

All are welcome to take part in the event and can register by emailing nakedbikecork@gmail.com. The cycle will begin at 3pm. Nudity is not obligatory.

As always, Bodypainting Cork will mount a huge bodypainting jam to adorn the bodies of the cyclists who wish to add a bit of colour to the event. Bodypainting will take place at a space provided by the Marina Market from 11am.

Everybody who attends as an artist or a model can take part in the cycle for free, although a donation is requested. All funds raised will go towards the reopening of the Camden Palace community arts centre. To register, email bodypaintregister@gmail.com.

The clothing optional table quiz, organised by the Irish Naturist Association, will take place on 26 August from 8pm at a city centre location yet to be confirmed. The quiz is still open to entrants at €20 per person. Funds raised will also go to the Camden Palace. To enter alone or with a team, email myrebelcounty@gmail.com. For more information, visit irishnaturism.org.

Also raising funds for Camden Palace is the 1,000 Bodies team who are arranging an early morning mass art nude photo installation starting at 7.30am 27 August, before the bodypainting jam.

This event is based on the work of American artist Spencer Tunick who attracted 5,000 nude models to his events in June 2008. Entry is by donation can be secured by emailing onethousandbodies@gmail.com.

The WNBR was founded in 2002 when 6 cyclists were killed on the roads of Zaragoza, Spain. After a flurry of safety ads aimed mostly at the safety of motorists, a group of local people organised a naked bike ride to dramatically attract media attention.

The cycle now takes place in over 80 countries around the world.
