Creating a butter future in Shandon

A Cork company has secured funding to undertake a feasibility study for the development of a tech and innovation hub at the iconic Butter Exchange building in Shandon.

Recreate Shandon, a company devoted to breathing new life into the city’s northside, was granted the funding recnetly by Enterprise Ireland under the Regional Enterprise Innovation Scoping Scheme 2022 (REISS).

Recreate Shandon Chairman, Sean O'Sullivan, said the Shandon Exchange tech and innovation hub is the 1st step in creating a brighter future for Shandon and for Cork.

Mr O’Sullivan said in a video on the Recreate Shandon webiste: “In recent years, Shandon has fallen on hard times and this is very evident when we look at the buildings around here.”

He continued: “We have set out a plan to turn this magnificent building into a hub for technology companies to grow and expand.

“We looked at technology hubs in Ireland as part of our investigation and the ones that are successful have been helping disadvantaged areas such as Shandon,” he also said in the video.

Mr O’Sullivan said the company’s first goal is to renovate the Butter Exchange building which was first opened in 1770.

“That will give us the base that we need to create the jobs that are going to benefit this area. We are reaching out to people who want to create a brighter future for the northside of Cork city.”
