Events centre construction to begin next year

Construction on the long awaited events centre in Cork city is set to begin next year.

This came to light during tonight's Cork City Council meeting after Independent Cllr Mick Finn asked for an update on the project. Cllr Finn has repeatedly asked for an update on it over the past several years.

Chief Executive of Cork City Council Ann Doherty told Cllr Finn that the Live Nation/BAM consortium continues to carry out detailed design of the Cork events centre.

She said: “This process was originally expected to take 9 months but due to the bespoke nature of the Cork event centre, it has taken longer than anticipated. It is now expected that this detailed design process will be completed in early 2023 which will enable the project to move to the construction phase.

“Construction is expected to begin in the first half in 2023 and will take 2 years to complete. As announced in last week’s national budget of €15 million in respect of the event centre, this represents the estimated public spending requirement for the project in 2023,” she concluded.
