What’s the ska Sunday?

Ska legends Bad Manners will be in Cork this weekend to remind us what the ‘80s were all about.

The loud Londoners play The Oliver Plunkett on Sunday night as they finish off their November tour of Ireland with a bang in the real capital.

Fronted by the unmistakeable in irreplaceable Buster Bloodvessel (real name Douglas Trendle), the band was formed in 1976 while the members were together at Woodberry Down Comprehensive School in North London.

Rising to prominence in the early ‘80s along side other ska revival bands like The Madness and The Specials, the group achieved significant chart success in the UK with early albums ‘Ska 'n' B’ (1980), ‘Loonee Tunes!' (1980), and ‘Gosh It's ... Bad Manners’ (!981). Between 1980 and 1983, the group managed a combined 111 weeks in the UK singles chart.

Some of their more notable hits include ‘My Girl Lollipop’, ‘Lip Up Fatty’, ‘Can Can’, ’Special Brew’ and ‘Walking in the Sunshine’.

Although many of the band’s previous members have come and gone over the years, the main man Buster Bloodvessel is still there and going strong.

Tickets for Sunday evening’s show at The Oliver Plunkett at 7.30pm are available on Ticketmaster and tickets.ie.
