Body found in unexplained circumstances

An investigation has been launched by gardaí in Cork after a man’s body was found in unexplained circumstances in the county.

Gardaí and emergency services were alerted shortly after 7pm, after the body of a man in his 50s was found at the foot of a stairwell in an apartment in Mallow yesterday, Thursday.

He was pronounced dead at the scene and has since been removed to Cork University Hospital.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána said: “The scene is currently preserved and a post-mortem examination will be carried out by Dr Bolster, Office of the State Pathologist, this morning.”

Results of the post-mortem will assist Gardaí in determining the course of their investigations.
