Assault victim dies in ICU

A man who was left fighting for his life after an assault in Cork last month has died.

Matt O'Neill, 29, died in the ICU unit at CUH on Sunday having been on life support for 11 days.

Gardaí are still investigating the assault which occurred at Glenwood Estate in Carrigaline on the evening of 28 December.

2 males in their late teens have been arrested and charged in connection with the assault.

Both have appeared separately before Mallow District Court on 30 December and Cork District Court on 1 January.

Gardaí are continuing to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident to contact them.

Any person who was in the vicinity of Glenwood Estate in Carrigaline between 5pm and 5.45pm on Wednesday 28 December, particularly any road users who may have dash camera footage of the incident, is asked to contact investigating gardaí.
