This morning an extra date has been added for British superstar Rod Stewart at Live at the Marquee after strong demand for his initial concert.
Tickets for Stewart’s initial Live at the Marquee 2023 concert went on sale this morning, Thursday, but sold well enough that an extra date has been added for 21 June.
Returning to the Leeside venue for the first time in 14 years, Sir Rod will take to the stage on 20 June. The concert, along with the full Live at the Marquee 2023 line-up was announced last week by Aiken Promotions.
The pop and rock singer was most recently on Leeside when he played Páirc Uí Chaoimh on 25 May in 2019.
Announcing Sir Rod’s return, promoter Peter Aiken said he was excited to be bringing Sir Rod back to Leeside for a 2 hour show with “all the hits”.
Mr Aiken added that the “football mad” singer will be eager to see Cork’s sports facilities during his time on Leeside, before recalling an encounter with him at his last Live at the Marquee performance in 2009.
“I was standing at the bottom of the stage and he just walked past me and said, ‘Nights like this are the reason I got into the business’.”
His upcoming visit to Cork follows the release of his 31st studio album ‘The Tears of Hercules’ which was released on 12 November 2021 during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Often lauded as the finest singer of his generation, Rod Stewart is one of the best-selling artists in the history of recorded music, with an estimated 250 million records and singles sold worldwide.
A 2-time Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductee and New York Times bestselling author, Rod was knighted in 2016 by Prince William at Buckingham Palace for his services to music and charity, becoming Sir Rod Stewart.
Other acts already confirmed for Live at the Marquee 2023 are My Therapist Ghosted me, The Frames, Aitch, Tommy Tiernan, Olly Murs, Bell X1, Mimi Webb, Christy Moore, and Jenny Greene and The RTÉ Concert Orchestra.
