Jazz fans in for a ‘special’ treat

2 of the world’s leading jazz musicians will be adding an extra layer of soul to Leeside this month when they play a once off show in the city centre.

On 17 June, Malaysian born bassist Linda May Han Oh and Cuban-American pianist Fabian Almazan will treat a lucky Cork audience to a night of awe inspiring music at Triskel Arts Centre.

Oh and Almazan have been collaborating musically for over a decade and their latest show consists of mostly original works inspired by their unique creative and cultural backgrounds.

Based in New York city, Linda May Han Oh is a prodigiously gifted bassist and composer who has performed and recorded with renowned artists such as Pat Metheny, Kenny Barron, Joe Lovano, Dave Douglas, Terri Lyne Carrington, Steve Wilson, Geri Allen, and Vijay Iyer.

Born in Malaysia and raised in Perth, Australia, Oh has won many prestigious awards in recent years and has released 5 critically acclaimed albums.

Pianist and composer Fabian Almazan found his musical roots as a child in Havana where he was first introduced to the classical piano tradition.

During the completion of his jazz piano bachelor's degree at the Manhattan School of Music, Fabian immersed himself in the realm of orchestral composition, studying instrumentation and orchestration with Mr Giampaolo Bracali. As a performer, Almazan has developed a personal voice through the electric manipulation of the acoustic piano in live and studio settings.

He has collaborated with artists such as Terence Blanchard, Gretchen Parlato, John Hollenbeck, Mark Guiliana, Dave Douglas, Avishai Cohen and Ambrose Akinmusire.

Tony Sheehan, artistic director at Triskel, said: “These are both hugely accomplished performers, improvisers and composers, and audiences will experience something truly special when they perform together.”

Tickets for the show on 17 June cost €20/€18 and are on sale from triskelartscentre.ie.

The concert is presented by Music Network and is part of a nationwide tour by the duo.
