Underwater filmmaker to make a splash

An Irish cameraman and author, who has delved into the depths of the North Atlantic Ocean, will share tales of his encounters with some of the largest creatures of the deep blue sea at two upcoming events in Cork.

‘Into the Deep’ is a one-man stage show by Ken O’Sullivan. The show features videos, stories and insight into the threats the marine world now faces. It takes place at the Celtic Ross Hotel, Roscarberry on Thursday 19 October at 7.30pm and The Everyman Theatre in Cork city on Wednesday 1 November and tickets start from €18.

Ken has created several films and documentary series including ‘North Atlantic: The Dark Ocean’ which aired on RTÉ in May of this year, ‘Ireland’s Ocean’ and ‘Ireland’s Deep Atlantic’, both of which feature on the Junior Cert curriculum.

Speaking about the show Ken said: “I’ve made the show as interactive as possible. There will be videos, stills and the stories behind the footage. The North Atlantic ocean is an incredible place and I’ve been privileged to get up close to enormous whales, monstrous sharks and other spectacular animals.”

The speaking tour is supported by Fair Seas, a coalition of environmental non-governmental organisations and networks campaigning for Marine Protected Areas (MPA) legislation.

“It’s fantastic to have the support of Fair Seas for this tour,” said Ken. “My work has a strong focus on conservation and I’m passionate about raising awareness about the climate and nature crises.”

Aoife O’Mahony, Campaign Manager with Fair Seas added: “Ken O’Sullivan is an incredible ambassador for the ocean. He has explored the deepest depths of the Atlantic Ocean and has brought it to life on our screens.

“His work helps us all to understand why it is so important that we protect our marine environment. Ken is a master storyteller, and his show promises to be an unforgettable experience.”
