Cornerstone music series back on the air

An iconic Cork pub will feature in a much-loved traditional music series as it makes a comeback to Irish television after a ten-year break.

‘Geantraí’, once considered the cornerstone of music programming on TG4, returned to Irish screens in January with episode seven of the 13-part series set to feature Monk's Lane bar in Timoleague, county Cork.

The Cork episode will air this coming Sunday on TG4 at 10.30pm and will feature traditional musicians from the surrounding area.

Hosted by singer Ciarán Ó Gealbháin, the series looks to capture the essence of Irish traditional arts and folk music in a relaxed session setting, emphasising the connection between performers and listeners.

‘Geantraí’ pays tribute to musicians and the venues hosting each session, from West Cork to Dunkineely in Donegal, across to Ballisodare, county Sligo, and to the village of Hollywood in Wicklow, the series covers the best of Irish traditional music from across the entire island of Ireland.

Produced by the team behind series like ‘Cúltír’ (TG4) and the recent ‘Seisiún’ (RTÉ), the new ‘Geantraí’ series aims to please old and new fans alike.
