Back to the ‘80s ball raises €6.5k

Michael J Fox was not present but a whole room of Cork’s finest went back to the future last weekend for a great cause!

A fundraiser for Cork Cancer Care Centre took place last Saturday in Vienna Woods Hotel when MII Cork (Marketing Institute Ireland, Cork branch) held their Back to the ‘80s ball.

The iconic ball returned with an ‘80s twist, as Cork’s marketers took to the dancefloor in their finest black-tie attire and raised €6,575 for the Paul Street-based cancer charity through the ever-popular raffle fundraiser.

The charity is a haven of professional support for people with cancer and their families, providing vital services including counselling, support groups and complementary therapies.

Dressed to impress in a mixture of black tie and ‘80s outfits, guests enjoyed a complementary drinks reception courtesy of drinks sponsor Barry & Fitzwilliam, before taking their places in the ballroom for a delicious four-course meal.

Red FM’s DJ Colm O’Sullivan got guests in a nostalgic mood with an exclusive ‘80s playlist before commencing MC duties.

Guests were also gifted a luxury goody bag, a classic MII Cork Ball staple.

The sought-after Best Dressed prizes sponsored by Keanes Jeweller’s went to Zahid Aslam and Anna Horan, both from MTU, who wowed the judges with their ‘80s get up, and MII Marketing Student of the Year went to Shannon Edwards, MTU, and Alexandra McInerney, UCC.

Popular group Spring Break got feet moving before a DJ set of classic hits closed the night.

Ezara Ahern Easter, Chair of MII Cork said: “The MII Cork Ball is always the highlight of Cork marketers’ social calendars, and we were thrilled to close what has been a year of outstanding educational and networking events with a true ‘80s bang.

“We see the ball as the cherry on top of the committees’ hard work delivering engaging and topical events and it was great to see so many people enjoying this celebration of the dynamic marketing industry in Cork.

“It was a privilege to partner with Cork Cancer Care Centre as our chosen charity, and we were so proud to raise over €6,000, which will go towards much-needed services for countless people living with cancer and their families,” the Chair of MII COrk addded.

Linda Goggin James, CEO of Cork Cancer Care Centre commented: “The generous funds we have received from the MII Cork Ball raffle fundraiser will ensure we can continue helping people with cancer through the toughest time of their lives.

“We would love to take this opportunity to thank not only MII Cork for their support but particularly those who contributed so generously by donating prizes and purchasing raffle tickets,” she added.

Johnson & Perrott and Cupra were the motor sponsors on the night, while Barry & Fitzwilliam were the drinks sponsor, Audio One sponsored the menus, and Kia sponsored the special 360-photo booth.
