The works of Leonard Cohen set to captivate Cork this September

A collaborative and unique interpretation of the rich music and words of Leonard Cohen is set for a once off show in Cork this autumn.

Bird On The Wire: The Songs of Leonard Cohen will see singer Pauline Scanlon and Galway band The Whileaways visit Cork Opera House on 28 September, just days after what would have been Cohen’s 90th birthday.

Tickets for the show are already on sale at Ticketmaster.ie and are naturally expected to fly out the door, so early booking is advised.

Bird On The Wire is a merging of singers exploring their own personal interpretations of Canadian singer-songwriter, poet, and novelist Leonard Cohen. The singers will lead a masterful ensemble including Conor McCreanor (bass), Dave Clancy (keys), Matthew Berrill (saxophone), and Eamon Murray (drums) accompanied by lush string arrangements.

“It has been our great privilege to step into the songs of Leonard Cohen over the last number of years. Each song is its own world, full of mystery and beauty,” said Kerry singer Pauline Scanlon.

Scanlon, a regular performer with Cork icon John Spillane, released her stunning debut album ‘Red Colour Sun’ over ten years ago. As a solo artist and as a member of vocal duo Lumiere, Scanlon has entranced audiences the world over with her distinctly delicate intensity.

The Whileaways are three powerful forces in Irish roots music: Noelie McDonnell, Noriana Kennedy, and Nicola Joyce. They combine to create a beguiling tapestry of harmonies, tradition and beautifully crafted original songs. They have released three critically acclaimed albums, toured all over the world, and been nominated for Best Group and Best Album in the RTÉ Folk Awards.
