Sauna, sea and solidarity in West Cork to help the homeless
A community-driven event in aid of the Cork Simon Community is set to return next weekend.
Grow Remote’s event is all about embracing the cold to bring warmth to Cork’s homeless. Taking place on 19 July at Garretstown Beach, participants will enjoy a 55-minute sauna and sea swim hosted by Wild Wellness, followed by tea, coffee, and light bites from Bean and Berry.
After a first attempt in November was thwarted by a red weather warning, the team is determined to make a positive impact this summer.
Every ticket purchased includes a direct donation to the Cork Simon Community, with proceeds funding sleeping bags for Cork’s homeless, each costing just €19.
This collaboration emphasises a shared goal: building a society where homelessness no longer exists and where local community members actively support one another.
The event is more than a wellness session. It’s a reminder of the warm homes we often take for granted. As participants gather on the beach and brave the refreshing Atlantic chill, they’ll reflect on the stability they enjoy and stand in solidarity with those seeking warmth and security. Victoria McCormack, Community Leader with Grow Remote, said: “In Cork, thousands of people face each day without a place to call home. At Grow Remote, we’re committed to building connections not just within the remote work community but with our broader community. “
She added: “This event is about solidarity, compassion, and giving back. While we get to return to warm homes after our sea swim, we hope our small contributions help make life a bit warmer for someone else.”
The event is open to all remote workers passionate about making a positive impact.
For more over 50 years, the Cork Simon Community has been a voice and support for people experiencing homelessness.
They provide shelter, resources, and advocacy for vulnerable members of the Cork community, driven by a belief in the right to safe, dignified, and supportive housing for all.
Grow Remote is a social enterprise that creates vibrant, connected communities by making remote work accessible and visible to all.
Through remote work, individuals, employers, and communities can foster social, economic, and environmental transformation, especially in Ireland’s towns and villages.
