A talented photographer from Clonakilty has been shortlisted for the next stage of the Reach for the Stars astrophotography competition.

Joe O’Sullivan has been recognised in the highly competitive Out of this World – Deep Sky category, which features stunning images of galaxies, nebulae and other celestial bodies far beyond our solar system.

The competition, run by the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (DIAS), celebrates the best astro-photographs taken in Ireland over the past year. While a panel of expert judges will choose the overall winners, members of the public are also invited to vote for the Public Choice Award. Joe is now calling on people across Cork and beyond to show their support by casting a vote for his entry online.

To vote, simply visit reachforthestars.ie/exhibition. Voting is open until 5pm on Thursday 24 July, and limited to one vote per person.

Winners will be announced in August and showcased at an outdoor exhibition at DIAS headquarters in Dublin.

DIAS is the world’s second, and Ireland’s only, Institute for Advanced Studies. It is a globally recognised research centre attracting top scholars from around the world in the fields of Celtic studies, theoretical physics, and cosmic physics.
