Cork Pride running stronger than ever
More than 400 people took part in the annual Cork Pride 5K recently at Kennedy Park – making it the biggest race to date. This year’s turnout was double that of 2024.
Runners and walkers, many dressed in bright Pride colours, completed two laps of Monaghan Road and Centre Park Road.
The race, hosted by Frontrunners and Briskwalkers Cork (FRBW Cork), marked the official start of the 2025 Cork Pride Festival.
The event welcomed people of all fitness levels. Participants could choose to run or walk, making it fully inclusive.
Dublin Frontrunners, a fellow LGBTQ+ running club, also joined in, with one of their members, Arturo Pasos Suarez, finishing first in an impressive time of 16:41. FRBW Cork’s Emma Harrington placed third among the women.
Fianna Fáil Cllr Mary Rose Desmond attended the race, deputising on behalf of the Lord Mayor of Cork.
She highlighted the importance of Pride events in fostering inclusion and making everyone feel welcome.
Race Director Rónan Murray said: “A lot of work has gone on behind the scenes to make this event a success, and the response has been overwhelming. It’s hard to believe the event sold out two weeks in advance!”
The event’s platinum sponsor, Stryker, was well represented on the day. Other sponsors included Eli Lilly, Cloud Era, and Analog Devices.
The event ended with plenty of cheers, smiles, and a strong sense of community – a perfect start to Cork Pride 2025.
