Rory Gallagher tribute ready to rock East Cork
Like a bad penny, a hugely popular Rory Gallagher tribute act is set to "turn up again" to one of county Cork’s most special venues this month.
The Barry McGivern Band returns to Sea Church in Ballycotton on 15 August for what will be the group’s fourth time there due to popular demand.
The band is fronted by Barry McGivern, a self-taught guitarist who has honed his act over many years. He and the band are known for channelling the brilliant music of Cork blues legend Rory Gallagher and making each show a unique and electrifying experience.
The Barry McGivern Band has been described by Rory’s brother Donal Gallagher as “simply, absolutely brilliant”.
With over 300 shows and ten years on the road, gig goers at Sea Church can expect high-energy rock and blues that capture the tone, dynamics, and raw spirit of Rory’s legendary performances.
Looking ahead to the show on 15 August, events manager with Sea Church, Matthew Sisk, said: “We’ve had a bumper summer of gigs at Sea Church and the Barry McGivern Band will really be the icing on the cake. It’s fantastic to welcome this incredibly talented outfit back to Sea Church for the fourth time; there’s already huge interest in the gig. Rory Gallagher means so much to the people of Cork, having spent his childhood here, so it’s always an extra special night when his music is celebrated.”
Barry McGivern added: “Barry McGivern Band are looking forward to delivering an authentic performance of Rory's great music in Ballycotton where Rory composed the most beautiful ‘A Million Miles Away’.”
Attendees at all Sea Church gigs now have the option of using the Sea Church Express, a return shuttle service to Ballycotton. The bus departs from Cobh and passes through Midleton, Cloyne, and Shanagarry. It brings people to Ballycotton 90 minutes before showtime to allow time for a bite to eat in the restaurant or a drink at the bar. The express then leaves 30 minutes after the show ends.
