Lehenaghmore works to begin
Big changes are coming to Lehenaghmore in Togher as the long-awaited road improvement works will begin this month, bringing safer roads, new footpaths, better lighting, and upgraded cycle and public transport links to the area.
The upgrade will start at the Tramore Road Roundabout, continue along the L2455 Pouladuff Road south to Barrett’s Junction, and from there follow the L2454 Togher Road, finishing near Route 14 bar.
This work comes as Lehenaghmore continues to grow rapidly. Locals have been calling for safer infrastructure and better transport links.
The works will include:
• Road realignment, widening and resurfacing
• Renewal and widening of existing footpaths, and new footpath construction
• A new pedestrian/cycle bridge adjacent to the railway bridge on Matthew Hill
• Installation of new and improved bus stops
• Construction of new cycling facilities
• Signalisation of the Forge Hill junction
• Junction improvements at Barrett’s Junction
• Landscaping and planting
• New stormwater drainage systems
• New energy-efficient and environmentally sensitive public lighting
• Construction of new retaining walls.
Welcoming the start of the scheme, Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Fergal Dennehy said: “I’m delighted that this long-awaited scheme is now moving to construction. It will bring much-needed safer facilities for all road users where none previously existed and for which the demand for has grown. It will be of huge benefit to the residents of Lehenaghmore and those coming to do business in the area.”
Glas Civil Engineering Ltd. has been appointed as the main contractor. The project is funded by the National Transport Authority.
Cork City Council has said that the works are expected to take around 18 months and will be carried out in phases to minimise disruption for residents. Updates will be posted on Cork City Council’s social media, website and shared directly with locals by the contractor’s on-site liaison officer.
