‘Cllr Trump’ takes part in naked bike ride

A local councillor stripped down and donned body paint as ‘Cllr Donald Trump’ for this year’s World Naked Bike Ride in Cork, which took place on Saturday 23 August.

For the day that was in it, Green Party Cllr Oliver Moran was 'Cllr Trump' as he called for the city to “make cycling safe again”, praising Cork’s “big beautiful cycle lanes” that “put cyclists first.”

Around 40 cyclists took part in the annual event, which highlights the visibility of vulnerable road users. The ride was officially launched by the Lord Mayor of Cork Fergal Dennehy.

Back in his own skin, Cllr Moran said the event is fun but delivers a serious message. “Over the past five years, there have been 11 road deaths and 179 serious injuries in Cork city alone.

“We all need to see how vulnerable we are on the road, and everyone has the right to be there safely,” he said.

The ride also supported Cycle Against Suicide, a Cork charity promoting mental health awareness.

“Speaking out can take courage, like taking part in tahis ride. It’s okay to feel vulnerable, and it’s absolutely okay to tell people what you’re going through,” Cllr Moran added.

He praised Lord Mayor Dennehy for supporting the 17 year old event, which continues to shine a light on road safety, mental health, and protecting vulnerable road users in Cork.
